When we think of an IT professional, what do you think of? Someone who just sits in front of a computer all day? It's a lot more than than, I have found a quote that sums up what makes someone an IT profesional.

They eat, live and breathe IT, especially the particular facet they specialize in. To them eight hours in front of a computer is not enough. It is not just work it is a knowledge base, it is entertainment, it is relaxation, it is life! A reason for living, a thing of excitement where change is welcome and advances in technology are eagerly awaited.​" -Locutus

With this said, this is what makes someone an IT professional. You must love what you do, keep up with current technologies, read articles, keep teaching yourself and others. IT must simply not be a job to you, it has to be a profession.
