Resource
Management

The IT department needs to manage their resources to optimize resource value. Staff, customers, vendors, hardware, software and relationships are resources that need to be managed properly to develop strong/broad staff competencies. Organizing your staff could be one of the best resource managing practices you could do for your company. Organize them by skills so that you know your skill base and assign employees properly.

Intellectual Property

"Effective risk management begins with a clear understanding of the enterprise’s appetite for risk and a brainstorming session on the high-level risk exposures of the enterprise. This focuses all risk management effort and, in an IT context, impacts future investments in technology, the extent to which IT assets are protected and the level of assurance required. At minimum, risk should at least be analysed, because even if no immediate action is taken, the awareness of risk will influence strategic decisions for the better. Often, the most damaging IT risks are those that are not well understood."

"This system goes beyond conventional accounting, measuring those relationships and knowledge-based assets necessary to compete in the information age (customer focus, process efficiency, and the ability to learn and grow)." -IT Governance Using COBIT

IT Value

The on-time and within-budget delivery of appropriate quality which achieves the benefits that were promised. The value that IT adds to the business is a function of the degree to which the IT organisation is aligned with the business and meets the expectations of the business.

This is the act of linking business and IT together to help the two work togther and create a more effiecient workplace. This method becomes aparent when the corporate side communicates effectively with line-of-business leaders and IT leadersabout costs, reporting and impacts.

Strategic Alignment

Intellectual property can be considered as intangible assests that employees should be aware about. As professionals in the IT work place, we need to value these assests to protect and uphold the value of the company that we are working for.
